This short term credit certificate course under the aegis of the Centre for Extended Education, Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, India, is designed to benefit both beginners and advanced learners. It addresses several key issues of our times, exploring the intersections between representation, mediation, and materiality in determining the shape of contemporary ecological crises.

We will study the historical links between colonial capitalism, neoliberalism and climate change, global pollution and racism, gender and habitat destruction, the liberal arts and anthropocentrism, social justice and environmental conservation, technology and the nonhuman. More significantly we will have a chance to collaboratively and interactively deliberate on the role of cultural texts, including cinema and art in augmenting and/or remedying our ongoing sixth mass extinction
